Prof Luuk van Middelaar guest professor at the Collège de France, Paris

From 24 March 2021, Professor Luuk van Middelaar will deliver four public lectures on 'Geopolitical Europe: Acts and words' at the Collège de France in Paris, on the invitation of the Chairholder on International Institutional Law, Professor Samantha Besson.

Van Middelaar will address Europe’s relationships with Russia, Turkey, China, and the United States, in the context of themes such as borders, scarcity and solitude, and will focus on Europe’s spatial and temporal self-image. The first lecture will be livestreamed from Paris on Wednesday 24 March at 19.30 hrs. The other three lectures will be broadcast on 31 March, 7 and 14 April at the same time. All lectures are in French.

The Collège de France, founded by King Francis I in 1530 and one of the country’s most prestigious academic institutions, is a public research and teaching institute which also aims to stimulate public debate. As guest professor, Van Middelaar will inaugurate the new, multi-disciplinary 'Cycle Europe', which will henceforth take place biannually. Next academic year, the lectures will be delivered by Vienna-based political scientist Ivan Krastev (autumn 2021) and by legal scholar Angelika Nussberger, professor at Cologne University and international judge at the constitutional court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (spring 2022).
