ASSET-H skills profile for the employability of humanities graduates

Did you know that during your studies you develop skills that are useful in working life too? On top of that, many of these transferable skills are listed as “future-oriented” skills and are in demand in the labour market.

The ASSET-H research team asked 1300 master’s level humanities students from three European universities to evaluate the skills they had developed during their studies so far. The result of this research is the ASSET-H skills profile for employability of humanities graduates. It describes the unique combination of skills and competences that in unison make up the skill set possessed by humanities graduates. The skills profile lists 70 detailed descriptions of skills divided into six categories visualized in the graphic below. Please see the ASSET-H website for the full skills profile: www.assethproject.eu/skills-profile

The 6 skills clusters of humanities students relevant to working life

Of course, not all humanities students are alike and each one possesses their own unique talents and interests. However, as a humanities student you are likely to thrive in some of these skills. The best way to make use of this profile is to read it carefully and reflect on your own unique skills profile. Which skills describe your abilities? This will make it easier for you to identify interesting job opportunities and describe your skills to future employers.
