LUC awarded bronze medal Elsevier’s Best Studies 2022

Leiden University College The Hague (LUC) has received a bronze medal in Elsevier’s Beste Studies 2022 (Best Study Programmes 2022). This means that both the student satisfaction regarding the quality of the programme and the programme’s performance have scored above average. Each year, Dutch news magazine Elsevier compares a rising number of study programmes of universities and universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands.

The medals are awarded to programmes that have scored considerably higher than average on a minimum of four topics. A programme receives a bronze medal with four or five exceptional scores, a silver one with six or seven, and a gold one with eight or more exceptional scores. LUC received high scores on five components: ‘Programme in general’, ‘Content of the programme’, ‘Acquired skills’, ‘Information provided by the programme’, and ‘Percentage of students that would choose the programme again’. Dean of Leiden University College, Giles Scott-Smith is very pleased with this recognition: 'These results confirm once more that our College and our staff are delivering innovative, top-quality education for today's undergraduates. 83% of those surveyed would choose our Global Challenges programme again, that is a very high level of satisfaction.'

Comparison

For the ranking, the individual programmes from universities and universities of applied sciences are compared within their own area of study but also with the entire field. Apart from LUC, University College Friesland was the only other college that received a medal from all the University Colleges in the Netherlands. On at least eight of the 11 components, Leiden University College scored above average, five of which had exceptionally high scores that ultimately led to receiving the bronze medal.

The Elsevier Beste Studies 2022 ranking is based on the results of the Nationale Studenten Enquete (NSE, national student survey) that was filled out by over 286,000 bachelor’s and master’s students in the Netherlands. The ranking and the results are once again based on the overall scores that the research institute ResearchNed calculated based on the results on the various NSE topics on behalf of the Elsevier Beste Studies.
