‘I’ve learned to embrace and accept my emotions thanks to Siggie’
‘Siggie’s a very accessible platform for students. I contacted Siggie during one of the lowest points in my life. Their support gives me a sense of security and mental support.’
In this article we share the experiences of a student who used Siggie for Students. The online coaching platform for students that is paid for students at FGGA. Find out if Siggie can be of help to you too.
Why did you contact Siggie?
‘I contacted Siggie during one of the lowest points in my life, juggling a master’s thesis, a full-time internship, the break-up of a serious long-term relationship, and job-hunting post-graduate. I was very lost in many ways.’
‘Knowing that there’s someone there who can listen to you and provide more professional help from an outsider’s point of view alleviates some of the psychological burden.’
What did it bring you?
‘Most importantly, a sense of security and support mentally. Knowing that there’s someone there who can listen to you and provide more professional help from an outsider’s point of view alleviates some of the psychological burden. And of course, some of the techniques are also helpful. For example, bringing attention to the present instead of fixating on the emotions; examining reoccurring thoughts; and practicing acceptance.’
What are, in your opinion, the benefits of online coaching?
‘It’s a convenient way to access help no matter where you are and can fit into your plans quite easily. And for some, it might make it easier to communicate or open up when there’s a certain distance.’
How are you doing now?
‘I’m in a much, much better, and healthier state, and I’ve learned to embrace and accept my emotions, whether they are positive or negative.’
Would you recommend Siggie to other students? And why?
‘I think Siggie’s a very accessible platform for students. My coach, Dominique, is very approachable and friendly. I would recommend it if you’re dealing with mental health challenges, or simply if you’d like to understand your emotions better.’
Koen Caminada, vice dean FGGA:
‘Your time as a student is the best time of your life, but it’s also a very demanding time. Studying, working, a busy social life, there are so many balls you need to juggle all at the same time. As university, we try to support our students keeping those balls in the air. But it’s only natural for someone to run into a problem or challenge. I believe it’s important that we help our students to be happy and healthy during their time here. Which is why I worked hard to be able to provide Siggie’s services to our students for free. That’s the best way to really take care of our students.’
