Annetje Ottow to step down as President of Leiden University’s Executive Board from 1 September

After nearly five years as President of the Executive Board, Annetje Ottow will be stepping down from the role as of 1 September. During her time as President, she helped shape the university’s strategic direction, strengthening its regional, European and international profile. Sustainability, and dignity and respect were also key priorities for her. Ottow has decided to explore new avenues and increase her focus on protecting nature and raising environmental awareness.

Chair of the Board of Governors, Ferd Grapperhaus said he would like to thank Annetje Ottow for her dedication to the university. ‘She has put her heart and soul into our university community and the development of our organisation.  Over the past five years, she’s delivered real improvements in many areas. We’ll miss her energy and inspiring leadership.’

Annetje Ottow said: ‘After five wonderful years at the university, it’s time for something new. It’s been a privilege to steer the university’s growth in this role. With 450 years of academic tradition and innovation, Leiden University is deeply rooted in the past yet ready to face the future. I’d like to thank everyone I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Leiden University is a fantastic institution.’
