LUC awarded NVAO special feature sustainable higher education

Leiden University College (LUC) is proud to announce that it have been awarded the Special Feature Sustainable Higher Education by the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO). This recognition affirms the deep commitment to embedding sustainability across the curriculum, research, and institutional partnerships.

Sustainability at the heart of the mission

At LUC, sustainability is not a buzzword. It is a guiding principle. It is defined through the lens of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), operationalized via the five dimensions of People, Planet, Peace, Prosperity, and Partnership (the 5Ps). These dimensions are intricately woven into the academic programme and reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the global challenges.

Global challenges meet global goals

Our hallmark Global Challenge: Diversity, Sustainability, Peace and Justice, and Prosperity, mirror the 5Ps framework:

This alignment underscores the belief that today’s most pressing issues cannot be solved in isolation. Tackling global challenges requires cooperation across disciplines, borders, and sectors.

A community of changemakers

Receiving the Special Feature from NVAO is more than an accolade. It is a reflection of our community’s shared vision. From faculty to students to alumni, LUC is united in its pursuit of a more sustainable, just, and prosperous world.

Leiden University College looks forward to continuing this journey and deepening our impact locally, nationally, and globally.
