Leiden University Student Platform

The Leiden University Student Platform (LUS) is a student-led ‘think-tank’ consisting of eight members, seven representatives of each Faculty and a Chair. The LUS discusses a wide variety of topics that concern students.

A core part of the LUS is to attain input from fellow students. Therefore several times a year the LUS organises meetings for all interested students to discuss and brainstorm different important topics. The insights and ideas collected during these meetings will be communicated to the Executive Board and other relevant organs at the University.

The platform brings together different groups of students for ad hoc thematic meetings, which address current issues arising from Leiden’s teaching agenda.

The LUS annually presents the Leiden Teaching Prize for the best teacher of the year.

The Leiden Teaching Prize is a special award, which is given to the lecturer who is considered to be the most creative and innovative teacher in giving their classes. Every student has an opportunity and is encouraged to nominate the best in their opinion lecturer.

Winner 2021

The academic year 2020-2021 was very special. Students were obliged to continue studying in an alternative way – mostly online. The lecturers who managed to do the best job within the new online ‘mode’ deserve to be put in the spotlight. During the opening of the academic year in September, the top three lecturers were presented.

The winner of the Leiden Teaching Prize 2021 is Ayo Adedokun who teaches students following the specializations of World Politics, Governance, Economics and Development at the Leiden University College (LUC) The Hague. He received €25,000 as part of the Leiden Teachers Academy in which he also take place.

The LUS was established in 2013 with the aim of providing advice to the Executive Board, primarily via the Vice-Rector who is the portfolio holder for teaching and student affairs. The LUS aims to gather insights especially but not limited to, from students that are not yet active or very involved.
