Wheelchair-accessible toilets

There are wheelchair-accessible toilets in both wings.

After the main entrance, continue straight ahead for approximately 6 metres past the reception. The toilet is on the right.

In the auditorium building: after entering, cross the reception area diagonally to the left. The toilet is located in the corridor behind it.

Lifts and escalators

Lifts for staff are located in the corridor behind the reception area and can be operated with a LU Card.

There are no parking spaces at our locations in the centre of The Hague. Please refer to the information provided by the municipality regarding parking options.

Spui Campus is a unique, open knowledge centre where academic research, teaching, and professional practice reinforce one another. Here, in the political and administrative heart of the Netherlands, Leiden University – together with the LUMC, Delft University of Technology, the Open University and Universities of the Netherlands – make research and teaching tangible and accessible to all.

Spui Campus welcomes around 4,000 students, learning professionals, policymakers, researchers and other visitors. They come together to learn, debate and collaborate on smart solutions to the challenges facing The Hague and the wider world. From security, public governance and law to preventive health, digital government and ethically responsible artificial intelligence.

Lectures, independent study and meetings

Spui Campus offers more than 30 teaching rooms and two examination venues. Students have access to a wide range of study spaces and quiet study spaces. And for Leiden University staff, there are various flexible workspaces and small meeting rooms on the second and third floors. These will be available to book soon; more information will follow.

From department store to knowledge store

The building that now houses Spui Campus has a rich history in The Hague. Designed by Jan Kuijt and completed in 1930 as a department store for Vroom & Dreesman (V&D), it remains an iconic landmark. Many residents of The Hague still feel a strong connection to the building and have fond memories of it. For decades, it was a much-loved shopping destination in the city centre, and for a shorter period, it was home to Hudson’s Bay.

Since 2026, the building has taken on a new purpose. With respect for the character of this listed building, it has been transformed into a modern university campus, a place where its heritage can still be felt
