ESA Academy scholarship

The ESA Academy Academic Scholarship Programme aims to facilitate access to space-related European education programmes by covering the tuition fees of selected students from ESA member and associate member states, and Canada. In doing so, it enables students to complement their academic knowledge and better prepare themselves for a space-related career.

For who

Students who wish to follow, and meet the admission criteria for, the Master of Laws: Advanced Studies programme in Air and Space Law.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet all the following criteria:

  • You are at least 18 years old by the official start date of the study programme;
  • You are a national of Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Latvia, Lithuania, United Kingdom, or Canada. 
  • You are not joining the study programme as an incoming Erasmus student;
  • You will not benefit from other financial aid to cover tuition fees for the study programme;
  • You lack the financial means to follow the study programme without the assistance of a scholarship.
  • You agree to the conditions of the ESA Academy’s Privacy Policy;
  • You accept the guidelines of the ESA Academy Academic Scholarship.

Exclusions

You cannot be awarded an ESA Academy scholarship if:

Scholarship amount

The ESA Academy scholarship covers the full tuition fee for the Master of Laws: Advanced Studies programme in Air and Space Law.

Application process

  1. Submit an online application for admission to the Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in Air and Space Law and pay the application fee of € 100. Don't forget to upload a sufficient English test result with your application. See English language requirements
     
  2. In your online application, upload a letter of motivation for the ESA Scholarship that meets all the following criteria:
    • It clearly states your student number (from uSis) and that the letter concerns your motivation for the ESA Scholarship.
    • It describes your financial situation and why you are unable to follow the programme without a scholarship;
    • It states your reasons for wishing to follow the study programme.

Note that your scholarship application will only be processed after you have submitted your application for admission, including your scholarship motivation letter, and have paid the application fee.

Selection criteria

The ESA recommends that students are selected on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Compliance with ESA eligibility criteria;
  • Interest in the space sector (ideally demonstrated by previous educational or extracurricular activities)
  • Motivation to attend the academic programme;
  • Educational benefit of attending the academic programme;
  • Justification for, and expected benefit from, the financial support;
  • Academic merit.

Priority is give to: 

  • Students who have not previously been sponsored by ESA;
  • Students who have less than 2 years of professional experience;
  • Students who are expected to benefit more from the financial support.

Selection procedure

Candidates for the scholarship are selected by the Admission Board of the programme and the organisation providing the scholarship. Scholarship decisions will be announced in the first week of May.
