Types and Amounts

LUC does not issue full scholarships covering the total costs of attending the program. Also, financial support does not necessarily cover the total financial need. Financial support is offered in amounts varying between approximately 1000 Euro to a maximum of approximately 3000 Euro per year.

You can find the full costs of attending the Liberal Arts & Sciences: Global Challenges programme here.

Applicants are encouraged to apply regardless of the amount of their financial need (but see below), however neither applying nor qualifying for financial support guarantees that the amount asked for will be awarded. LUC will decide how much financial support is awarded to each applicant. The intention is to help as many students as possible.

Financial support can only be offered as far as LUC’s budget allows for it. Renewal of financial support packages and new applications from current students take preference, remaining funds are then awarded to incoming students as far as the budget permits.

Financial Support Elements

Financial support may consist of one or more of the following elements depending on your situation and on the available budget:

Tuition fee waiver
  • Partial or full waiver of the LUC Institutional Fee.
  • Partial waiver of the non-EU/EEA tuition fee

LUC is not allowed by law to waiver the full tuition fee; the student must always pay at least the statutory tuition fee (2209 Euro per year for AY 2022-23).

Tuition fee waivers are processed by the central student administration at Leiden University. They will be deducted from the amounts you have to pay. Any remaining balance of tuition fees, as well as additional costs (such as costs for payment in installments) are to be paid by the student.

Campus Fee Waiver

LUC charges a non-refundable Campus fee to students in the first two years of the program. The fee is used as a contribution towards the costs of the residential program. These include:

  • The costs of staff involved in the residential program, such as the Student Life Officer, Resident Assistants, and support staff.
  • Facility costs related to the residential areas.

The 2022-2023 fee is 533 euro. The fee has to be paid in the 1st and 2nd year and is subject to change on an annual basis.

A Campus Fee waiver will exempt a student from paying the fee.
