Awarding of diploma

Once you complete your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree you will be awarded your diploma during a celebratory graduation ceremony. Some study programmes also have ceremonies for the awarding of first-year (propedeuse) diplomas or other important achievements. The awarding of your diploma is always arranged by your faculty or study programme.

Graduation ceremonies are always arranged by your study programme or faculty.

Graduation Ceremony

The graduation ceremony is organized by the Examination Board of your study program. You will receive an official invitation no later than two weeks in advance. The exact date of the ceremony will be announced at a later time. Additional information will be sent to you by email.

Diplomas obtained during the current academic year up to and including August will be awarded in the autumn during a festive ceremony. Some programs also organize an additional ceremony for students who graduate in February.

Collecting Your Diploma from the Education Office

Diplomas are not sent by post within the Netherlands. You can collect your diploma at the education office desk starting from one working day after the graduation ceremony, during regular opening hours.

You can schedule an appointment with your education office for this. Don’t forget to bring valid identification with you.

Authorizing Someone Else to Collect Your Diploma

Unable to collect your diploma yourself? You may authorize someone else to collect it on your behalf. The person collecting your diploma must present valid identification and bring the following documents:

  • A copy of your ID
  • A copy of their own ID

In addition, please send an email in advance to the education office stating the name of the person authorized to collect your diploma.

The Classics and Ancient Civilizations program offers two collective graduation ceremonies, on the condition that a considerable amount of students graduate, in October (date of graduation 31 August) and March (date of graduation 31 January). Students who finish the programs between the 1st of June and August or between the 1st of November and January participate in these graduation ceremonies. During the graduation ceremony the first supervisor of the thesis will present the diploma with a laudatio. The presence of your supervisor(s) at the ceremony is therefore essential. You are welcome to bring family and friends!

The graduation ceremony for January 2018 graduates is on Wednesday 7 March 2018 between 3-6pm

Students not participating in the collective graduation ceremonies due to a different graduation date are offered an individual graduation ceremony. Students can contact the co-ordinator of studies and the secretary of the Board of Examiners to make arrangements regarding an individual session.
