Children’s Rights Scholarship 2

The Children’s Rights Scholarship 2 is intended for students who wish to follow the Master of Laws Advanced Studies programme in International Children’s Rights and meet all criteria for admission.

Important

Please be aware that the scholarship application portal will have limited access in the weekend of 31 January - 1 February. We therefore highly recommend that you submit your scholarship application by 30 January at the latest. 

For who

Students who wish to follow, and meet the admission criteria for, the Master of Laws: Advanced Studies programme in International Children’s Rights.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • be a national of Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda or Malawi,
  • be highly motivated to follow the Master of Laws Advanced Studies Programme in International Children’s Rights, and
  • Lack the financial means to follow the study programme without the assistance of a scholarship.

Obligations

You must have the firm intention of returning to your home country after graduation and bringing into practice the knowledge obtained during the programme, in order to improve the implementation of international children’s rights in your home country.

Exclusions

You cannot be awarded a Children’s Rights Scholarship 2 if:

  • you will follow a study programme other than the Master of Laws Advanced Studies programme in International Children’s Rights at Leiden University.

Scholarship amount

The scholarship amounts to €50,543. The scholarship covers the full costs of participation (tuition, travel, living expenses and accommodation costs). The duration of the scholarship is one year.

Application process

  1. Submit an online application for admission to the Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in International Children’s Rights  and pay the application fee of € 100. It is not possible to waive this fee.
    Please note: you are required to upload a sufficient English test result with your application. Please check the
    English language requirements. The costs for an English test must be paid by the applicant.

  2. In your online application, upload a letter of motivation for the Children’s Rights Scholarship 2 that meets all the following criteria:
    • It clearly states your full name and student number (from uSis) and that the letter concerns your motivation for the Children’s Rights Scholarship 2.
    • It describes your financial situation and why you are unable to follow the programme without a scholarship;
    • It states your reasons for wishing to follow the study programme.
  3. After submitting your online application, send an e-mail to the programme coordinator via ICRscholarships@law.leidenuniv.nl indicating your interest in the scholarship and attaching your scholarship motivation letter and a short video of 2 minutes in which you introduce yourself.

Note: we will only process your scholarship application once you have submitted your complete application for admission to the study programme via Leiden University’s online application portal (uSis), and have paid the application fee.

Selection process

Candidates for the scholarship are selected by the Admission Board of the programme. Scholarship decisions will be announced in the first week of May 2026.  

Finding housing

Be aware that finding housing in Leiden, The Hague and the surrounding area can be challenging due to the limited availability of affordable student accommodation.
