Sallie Mae is a loan provider in the US, who offers private loans to US students to cover their costs for their study period abroad.

Application process
- Submit an online application for admission for a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programme at Leiden University before the relevant deadlines.
- After admission to the study programme, follow the Sallie Mae Student Loans application procedures. Our School code for your SallieMae application is: 00869200.
Specific information
- The loan period is one year only. If your study programme is longer than one academic year, you can submit a loan application for each year.
- Please use 1 September as the loan start date if you are applying for a full academic year.
- The loans offered by Sallie Mae are based on your credit profile. Your credit (and that of your cosigner if you have one) will be evaluated, along with the other information you provide in your application. SallieMae will make the final decision on the approval/denial of your loan application.
- Sallie Mae will disburse the funds to Leiden University on the scheduled disbursement date.
- Sallie Mae loan funds will be transferred to students only once Leiden University has received the funds in its bank account.
Note: your bank may charge transaction costs for the receipt of funds from Leiden University and the amount received may be influenced by currency exchange fluctuations. Leiden University is unable to reimburse or compensate any such costs/losses.
