Climate change affects our well-being in many ways. On the science platform The Conversation, Inge Schrijver, Paul Behrens and Rutger Hoekstra of the CML describe how this is hardly taken into account in the climate models on which global policy is based.

The Hub for Impactful and Engaged Research is a new collaboration that brings together five leading educational institutions in the province of Zuid-Holland: Leiden University, the LUMC, Delft University of Technology, Erasmus Medical Center and Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Henk Hoekstra will take up the role of Scientific Director of Leiden Observatory on 1 January 2027. He succeeds Ignas Snellen, who has served in the position since 16 August 2022. Hoekstra has been appointed for a four-year term.

Professor Sarah de Rijcke became the new Rector Magnificus of Leiden University on 15 January 2026. She introduces herself and shares what motivates her to take on this role.
