Housing for international students
For international students, finding accommodation and navigating your way through the procedures involved can be challenging at times. Find out about the assistance and support available.
Housing via Leiden University
Every semester, Leiden University reserves a number of rooms for international students via DUWO, a local housing agency. Accommodation is intended for new short-stay international students who are about to join Leiden University for an exchange or degree programme. As there is limited availability, you are advised to request housing as early as possible. Visit the Housing via Leiden University page for full details.
Finding housing yourself
As an international student, house hunting in the Netherlands can present additional challenges. You may be unfamiliar with procedures and prices; websites and advertisements are often in Dutch. On our Finding housing yourself page you can access up-to-date information, intended to help international students to find accommodation and avoid possible pitfalls.
Support and advice
- You can find information on who to turn to with any housing-related issues on our Problems, complaints and disputes page.
- In many DUWO student housing complexes there is a Resident Assistant on hand to offer support and advice to fellow tenant.
- For problems of a more personal nature, for example issues with a roommate or difficulties adapting to life in the Netherlands, you are welcome to contact a Student Counsellor.
