Leiden University has several libraries. All libraries are run by one central organisation called Universitaire Bibliotheken Leiden (UBL).

As a student of Leiden University you may make use of all UBL libraries, even those located at other faculties. The UBL has an extensive collection of scientific information both in hard copy and digital form. You can also access international collections such as medieval manuscripts, archives, old prints, drawings and photographs from all over the world.

Do you want to use a computer workstation in one of the libraries? First check from home how busy it is.

'UBL Get Access'

When you’re inside a university building it’s easy to access digital information. When you’re outside the university you have to first log in. To make this process quicker and easier you can use the ‘UBL Get Access’ button. This allows you to access digital articles, e-books and other online resources without having to first go through the library catalogue.

Say you’ve found an interesting article on a publisher’s website with a button saying ‘Buy this article’ . If you now click on the ‘UBL Get Access' favourite a new window will open where you can log in using your ULCN details. You’ll then see a button saying ‘Read’ next to the article with a link to the complete article. In some cases you’ll have to click on an sfx-button to continue.

To install, go to the library catalogue start page and drag the ‘UBL Get Access’ button into your favourites bar. Installation is one-time only, after that you can use ‘UBL Get Access’ anywhere on the internet. Unfortunately the tool is not yet available for smart phones.
