Huawei Seeds for the Future Programme

Third-year undergraduate students majoring in ICT, engineering or a related field. Applicants must be Dutch nationals, under 30 years of age and have a GPA of at least 7.5.  A demonstrated affinity with China, fluency in English and a passion for ICT and engineering is essential.

Details:

Huawei Technologies Netherlands is generously offering 10 fully-financed study trips to excellent students of Leiden University, the University of Amsterdam, Eindhoven University of Technology and Twente University, who wish to broaden their academic training by visiting China and enrolling in a training programme at Huawei in Shenzhen. Your field of expertise must be directly related to ICT, encryption, and/or telecommunications engineering. 

Programme

  • Huawei Amsterdam: Company visit & pre-departure briefing introducing Huawei corporate culture (one whole day in July).
  • Flight - Amsterdam to Beijing.
  • 1-week intensive introduction to Chinese culture and language at Beijing Language and Culture University. 
  • Flight to Huawei Headquarters in Shenzhen.
  • 1-week training programme at Huawei HW. Chief engineers will deliver presentations on topics such as 4G connections, LTE devices, managing broadband and VOIP.  You will be divided into smaller groups and work on a case assignment which you will present to Huawei staff when back in the Netherlands.

Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) - Chinese Culture Summer Program 2019: Feeling China; An Exploration of Chinese Culture

The programme has a clear focus on Chinese culture and consists of:

  • Access to various optional hands-on courses.

Students will attend 16 well-knit lectures, which are classified into four areas:

  2. Ancient Chinese philosophy and contemporary Chinese politics
  3. Chinese society and customs
  4. Appreciation of Chinese culture, arts and technology

 

Fees SISU is generously offering up to three scholarship places for this programme for Leiden University students. 

Note that the scholarship covers tuition fees only!

Not included in the scholarship are travel, visa, insurance, board and lodging costs. Lodgings can be reserved at a cost of:

Tsinghua Summer School: Experiencing China

This summer school at one China’s top university offers small interactive classes in seven different areas, in a Chinese context, namely:

Participants will engage in keynote lectures, project discussions, interactive workshops and site visits with fellow students from more than 50 countries and regions across the world. Students who complete the summer school will receive an official transcript and two academic credits from Tsinghua University.

Fees and application Tsinghua University offers two scholarships to Leiden University students. The scholarship covers:

Bayreuth International Summer School

Details: The Bayreuth International Summer School 2019 consists of eight different courses held over the same time period. Summer Intensive Arabic Language Program, American University of Sharjah

Netherlands Asia Honours Summer School (NAHSS)

Where: Masterclasses and meetings in the Netherlands. Summer schools in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Beijing or Shanghai and a Business Week in Shanghai.
When: June-August + masterclasses and meeting before and after departure (timeline).
For who: Excellent third year Bachelor’s students, preferably (but not exclusively) students of the Honours College or LUC. Second year students may apply on condition that the whole of their second year will be completed during the current academic year.

Details:

As one of the one hundred excellent students selected, you will have the opportunity to attend a summer school at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Chengchi University in Taipei, or another Chinese university. You can follow Asia-related courses in the fields of business, management, engineering, humanities, social sciences and languages.

After the academic programme NAHSS participants join a Business Week in Shanghai. Here they meet Dutch and Asian companies and institutions and hear about their vision and how they have adapted to the Chinese market.  
Fees and application:

The whole programme, both in the Netherlands and Asia, including flights and accommodation, costs €1000 per student. Applications must be submitted directly to NAHSS.

Leiden University nominates a maximum of 25 students. NAHSS then selects between 4 and 15 students from this group by way of a second selection round.

The China Europe International Summer School (CEISS)

Where: Shanghai, Utrecht, Berlin and Copenhagen

For who: Students of all disciplines who have completed at least one or two years of university study.

Details: CEISS offer fourteen summer courses for Chinese and international students in disciplines related to Chinese-European relations, i.e. international economics & business, politics & administration and international relations & diplomacy. Students can follow one to three courses in succession at one or more location in China and Europe. Each course is two weeks in duration and taught in English. No specific prior skills are required, however the course is at advanced Bachelor’s level (i.e. minimum one or two years of academic study).
