Get together at the university
There are countless ways to meet new people, at your own study programme and faculty, or elsewhere within the university.
Plexus Living Room
Looking for a cosy place to relax or get creative? Come to the Living Room on the ground floor of Plexus Student Centre.
The Meeting Point
The Meeting Point is a cosy meeting place for students who could use a little extra help finding their way in the Netherlands or within the university. Mainly focused on refugee students, first-generation students, and students from Suriname and the Caribbean region of the Netherlands.
Meeting Point
POPcorner
Certain faculties offer a POPcorner. A POPcorner is a meeting point organised for and by students where you can make new contacts, follow workshops, organise activities, share your experiences, and find a listening ear. The POPcorner helps you find your way within the faculty and during your studies.
Studium Generale
Would you like to learn more about the impact of science on society? Or explore other academic fields and meet fellow students in an accessible way?
Studium Generale organises academic activities such as lectures, symposia, theatre performances, film screenings, and debates for a broad audience.
Check out the Studium Generale program (mostly Dutch).
Creative students
LAK
LAK offer courses in the following categories: theatre and presentation, dance, visual arts, music, photography and writing (literature).
These courses will help you to not only develop your talents, but also to meet others who share the same passions.
Sporty students
The University Sports Centre has a wide range of sports on offer in Leiden and The Hague. As well as gym facilities, they also offer lessons in more than 55 different sports: from ballet to self defense sports, from yoga to spinning, and from pole fitness to boxing. You can also join a student sports association. Not only do they offer a sporting challenge, sports associations also offer a social environment in which you can get to know new people.
As a student, you become a member for a very reasonable price.
University Sports Centre (USC)
The University Sports Centre (USC) offers a range of online sports tutorials via YouTube, to make sure you get enough exercise and relaxation. Handy if you are studying from home or if you want to try out a new sport.
Study and student associations
As well as being fun, associations can offer you a social network and a range of worthwhile activities. Many students find that association membership enriches their student days and contributes to their enjoyment of their studies.
A study association is a good way to combine study-related activities with having fun. There are also many student associations in which students from various disciplines and with various interests come together for fun, sports and cultural activities.
