Are you our new student Board Member (Assessor) for Archaeology?
The assessor is a member of the Faculty Board and is charged with defending and maintaining student interests in policy developments of the Faculty of Archaeology, and Leiden University. Applying to this position gives you the fantastic opportunity to develop your professional skills and allows you to actively contribute to bringing about positive changes both in the faculty and the wider university.
Task list of the Assessor: student affairs
The main role of the assessor is to advocate for the student perspective in matters both internally at the Faculty of Archaeology, as well as the wider University. This manifests in:
- Active participation in weekly Faculty Board meetings, and other relevant meetings within the faculty and the university;
- Using expertise of student affairs in helping create Faculty or University policies;
- Participation in university wide work- or steering-groups;
- Maintaining contact with student representatives (individuals and groups) within the faculty, for example: the student representatives of the Faculty Council, Education Committee, the LUS student representative and the study association (L.A.S. Terra) board;
- Help facilitate student groups, namely representatives, through organising or arranging training sessions and/or managing financial compensation;
- Chairing Sounding Board meetings consisting of all appointed student representatives within the Faculty of Archaeology;
- Participation in the Leiden Assessors Council (LAssO), wherein the seven Assessors of Leiden meet regularly;
- Participation in the Student Affairs Council (Studenten Zaken Beraad: SZB), a meeting occurring every six weeks with LAssO members and the rector of the university;
- Involvement in the internal and external quality assurance of education at the faculty;
- Community building within the faculty between staff and students, and university-wide between the different faculties;
- Consultation regarding promotional and information-based events. Acting as the main point of contact between students and the rest of the Faculty Board and linking pin with the faculty’s student association.
- Integrity orientated, honest, driven, venturous, and open;
- An academically strong student from a programme offered by the Faculty of Archaeology at Leiden University (BA or (R)MA/MSc);
- Strong communication and social skills, enthusiasm, and vocal with regard to education and student affairs within the faculty;
- A diverse network amongst the students within the faculty;
- Flexible timewise with a 25 hours per week availability during (and sometimes outside) office hours.
This position offers a one (1) year contract, from September 1st 2022 until August 31st 2023. On the basis of merit, and at the discretion of the rest of the Faculty Board, a one (1) year extension may be provided.
For preforming these tasks, the assessor receives a monthly compensation from the university. This compensation currently amounts to €1.423,00.
