How can you apply for the Pre-PhD Programme, and what are the selection criteria?

In principle each academic institute puts forward a maximum of 3 candidates and a supervisor (either an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor).
Selection criteria
Phase 1
- An indication that the candidate is interested in and has talent for conducting academic research (demonstrated by extra courses taken and/or research-related activities);
- Clear motivation for conducting research as put forward in a motivation letter.
- Besides the motivation letter also send your resume and BA- and MA-transcripts.
Maximum number of participants: 20.
Phase 2
- Successful completion of Phase 1 and motivation to conduct PhD research or (if Phase 1 has not been followed);
- O&O appointment or affiliated in some other way to Leiden Law School and motivated to conduct PhD research.
Maximum number of participants: 25
Admission
The final selection of candidates from the applications submitted will be done by the Graduate School.
