For whom
The Pre-PhD Programme is primarily aimed at students who wish to secure a PhD position (in Leiden or elsewhere).
Please Note: The Leiden Law School Pre-PhD-Programme is only available to students enrolled in one of our regular Master Programmes.
The programme is intended for highly motivated students who wish to develop their research skills further. In the second phase, staff from Leiden Law School may also participate. The programme also has a broader dimension for those with a more general interest in academic research.
- Phase 1: master’s students (with the exception of Advanced LLM students)
- Phase 2: students who have successfully completed Phase 1, and staff with a research and teaching appointment (O&O). Employees with a zero-hour contract, or affiliated to the Law School in some other way, may also be considered following consultation with the Graduate School.
Larissa van den Herik
Professor of public international law

‘This is a programme for students doing a regular master’s degree, but it is also intended for staff who have studied here and who, for example, have a teaching appointment for a year at Leiden Law School.’
