Buddy system: Barrier-free studying

Do you no longer want to be limited by health problems or dyslexia in your study? Do you want to break down the barriers of your disability? Get a buddy!

Are you looking for a buddy?

The buddy system is there for students with health problems, for example physical disabilities, that mean that they cannot always be physically present at the university. Students with dyslexia can sign up for the buddy system as well.

What is the role of a buddy?

In the buddy system, a student with health problems (for example a physical disability) or dyslexia is linked up with a buddy. The buddy is a student who is in the same year of the same degree programme.

You and your buddy arrange to meet about twice a month to talk about the degree programme, your study progress, any hurdles you've encountered, etc. The buddy knows what’s going on, is easy to reach and stays in touch with you. Moreover, the buddy can help to advance your study and/or social skills. For students with dyslexia, the buddy can read through essays and correct your spelling.

The basic principle is that you yourself are present at lectures and work groups as much as possible. If occasionally that is not possible, your buddy may be able to help by sharing their notes, for instance. And they can pass on any important information or tips given during lectures or work groups. Your buddy will think along with you about how to solve any issues you encounter because of your disability. In this way the two of you work towards your study success together, in a fun way.

Who is eligble for a buddy?

FSW students with health problems such as physical limitations/dyslexia who are looking for a permanent, informal contact point. Make sure that you have consulted your study advisor before applying.

Please note: A buddy is not responsible for your study progress and is only for practical study support!
