Inequality & Diversity

Inequality and Diversity are themes which are at the centre of current societies debates. What challenges does diversity pose, and how is it linked to inequality? Research Internships offered in this category are offered by a broad range of organisations, which include municipalities, advocacy groups as well as institutions of higher learning.

* Vitaliteit, Leefstijl, en een Gezonde Omgeving

Deze PiP stage biedt de mogelijkheid tot het doen van Master onderzoek in Leiden Noord rond thema’s op het vlak van vitaliteit en gezondheid zoals bijvoorbeeld eenzaamheid, gezondheid en leefstijl, of manieren waarop de publieke ruimte gezond gedrag kan stimuleren. Het onderzoek zal gedaan worden in samenwerking met Leren met de Stad en welzijnsorganisatie Incluzio, en wordt zo veel mogelijk vanuit het onderzoeksatelier op de locatie van Leren met de Stad in Leiden Noord uitgevoerd.

* Debt Biographies: a Life History Approach to Problematic Debts

The aim of ‘debt biographies’ is to gain a detailed understanding of how people get into debt. What are the circumstances in which people accumulate debt and what kind of debts are these? How do debts impact people’s lives, feelings of self-worth and aspirations for the future? This internship is in cooperation with Dr. Jessie Pool (Faculty of Law) and connects social-scientific insights on indebtedness with legal research on debt relief and insolvency proceedings. Particular attention is paid to how legal rules, institutional procedures and communication shape indebtedness and people’s experiences of debt. The project gains insight into whether these systems realistically match people’s practical abilities under financial circumstances.
