Korean Painting Series -Drawing a Plum Blossom

Thursday from 15:30-18:00 h (start 4 April, later than originally planned)

For whom
All levels welcome (minimum age: 17)

Content
Traditional Korean painting carries so much symbolism and depth, especially in
capturing the essence of different seasons and spirits through art. In order to
establish the basics of Korean painting, we will first practice the Sagunja (Four
Scholars Painting). This special painting first began with the poems of scholars and
developed their calligraphy technique into a drawing that symbolizes the season and
spirit.

In this course, we will draw a plum blossom that represents spring in traditional
painting. Plum blossoms are one of these four plants that can learn multiple skills by
practicing them. In addition, its association with season and resilience in harsh
conditions will make for a wonderful subject to explore within this framework.
The Sagunja practice is a beautiful way to connect poetry, calligraphy, and visual
representation. We will be practicing the subject by season allowing us to delve
deeper into the nuances of each period and its unique characteristics.

Would you enjoy the process of connecting art with cultural and seasonal themes?

The course is divided into 4 workshops of 2.5hours:
lesson 1. Learning of The Story of Plum Blossom in Korean Painting
                 : Practice stems and branches
lesson 2. Practice Petals & combine them with branches
lesson 3. Practice Ink and color plum blossom
lesson 4. Final Work

Materials are present during the lessons. For practicing at home you have to buy the materials yourself. You can ask the teacher for advice about the materials.
