Cancelled: National strike 10 June in Amsterdam

8 June 2025

Update: The strike on 10 June in Amsterdam has been cancelled due to the NS train strike.

On 10 June, students and staff from universities across the country are protesting against the cuts to higher education. They are doing so at Dam Square in Amsterdam.

The Executive Board and deans support the initiative but have decided to keep the university open. Read here about what the strike means for students.

University to remain open

Our buildings will remain open on 10 June. The Executive Board and deans will make every effort to ensure essential activities such as exams, PhD ceremonies and inaugural lectures go ahead as planned that day.

If your lecturer is striking and has cancelled your classes, they will inform you as such in Brightspace.

Update 4 June: Unions will arrange buses

On 10 June there's a possible strike from NS personnel, so there won't be riding any trains.  That is why unions will arrange buses, leaving from Delft, Den Haag, Groningen, Leiden, Rotterdam. If you want to get a seat, please register via the FNV website. The FNV union will provide you information about locations and timetables. You don't have to be a union member to accept this offer and it's also available for students.

Compulsory practicals and exams

Students wishing to join their teaching staff in the strike are not required to attend classes on 10 June, except for compulsory practicals and exams that cannot be rescheduled. They are also responsible for catching up on missed work.

For students from the Faculty of Medicine, attendance is at their own discretion. They are responsible for catching up on missed work. Missing compulsory classes may mean having to catch up next academic year.

Strike programme

Please refer to the agenda item of the strike for the up to date programme.
