Saturday 21 June: Behind-the-scenes look at the construction of University Sports Centre
Saturday 21 June 2025, BINX Smartility will open the construction gates of a special project: the new Sports Centre of Leiden University. That is because this day is The Day of the Constructers when everyone gets to take a unique look at construction sites that normally remain closed to the public.
A modern and sustainable centre for sports and exams is currently being built on the site of Leiden Bio Science Park. An impressive building of over 9,000 square metres, it will soon house sports halls, dance studios, a gym, catering facilities and, of course, it will be used as an examination centre. It will be built completely energy-neutral, with great attention to circularity, biodiversity and climate adaptation. A paragon of future-proof building!
During the behind-the-scenes look, you can see with your own eyes how this innovative project is being realised. Whether you are young or old, interested in technology, sports or sustainability: there is plenty to discover at the construction site. BINX staff will explain the ins and outs, organise fun activities and show what is needed for such a large-scale construction project.
The construction site will be open on Saturday 21 June from 10:00 to 15:00. You are welcome at Max Planckweg 1 in Leiden to come and take a look. Admission is free, parking is available at the construction site on the Max Planckweg. You can also acces the new sports centre via the Gorleaus Building on the 21st of June. More information can be found at website of the new USC. Come by and take a look at the Leiden Science Run which is on the same day and passes allong the new USC.
