2–6 March: Temporary shutdown of process cooling water

9 February 2026

During week 10 (2-6 March), maintenance work will be carried out on the primary process cooling water system in the Gorlaeus Building. This work is necessary to make the system more future-proof and easier to control.

Why is this necessary?

The current process cooling water system is operating at around 80% of its capacity and therefore does not meet the original design specifications. In addition, the system is difficult to regulate and requires continuous monitoring and adjustment. Structural improvements are needed to resolve these issues.

Who will be affected?

The work will affect both staff and students. All research activities and practicals that require process cooling water to cool set-ups or equipment cannot take place during this period.

When?

The work will take place in week 10, from Monday 2 March to Friday 6 March 2026.

What is the impact?

During this period, no process cooling water will be available anywhere in the Gorlaeus Building.

What should you take into account?

  • Please note that process cooling water cannot be used in week 10.
  • Schedule research activities and practicals that require process cooling water preferably before or after week 10.
  • External parties will also not be able to use facilities that require process cooling water during this week.
