Fundraising Bake Initiative for Gaza

A group of psychology students are organizing a student-led bake initiative to raise funds for the people affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. This project was chosen by the students as part of the Honours Changemakers Lab course and was inspired by the fundraiser previously organized in the Faculty of Social Sciences in response to the earthquake in Turkey.

The project aims to foster awareness and provide an accessible way for students and staff to contribute to an urgent societal cause. Humanitarian needs remain staggering, as according to the United Nations agencies, large segments of the population still face severe shortages of essential items such as food, water, medicine, and shelter. Therefore, the bake sale will not only help those in need but also offer members of the university community the opportunity to take collective action.

All proceeds from the bake initiative will be donated to Save the Children’s emergency response in Gaza, where the organisation is working to support children and families facing severe shortages of food, healthcare, clean water, and shelter. Through health services, nutrition support, temporary learning spaces, and child-friendly programmes, they aim to provide lifesaving assistance and protection for children. Despite the limited access to the Gaza Strip, the organization is able to provide assistance directly and through 300 Palestinian staff members and local partners.
