Workshop: Building Confidence When Speaking in Class
Do you sometimes feel uncomfortable speaking up during a lecture? Do you find it challenging to raise your hand in a seminar because the group feels large or overwhelming? Or do you hesitate to ask questions and share your ideas with confidence? If so, you are warmly invited to join this workshop — a safe and approachable space where you can work on developing confidence when speaking in the classroom. This workshop is organized by fellow students and offers room for open conversation about class participation. You will be able to exchange tips and experiences, explore how to gradually expand your comfort zone, and listen to stories from peers who face similar challenges.

Workshop
The goal of this workshop is to motivate and inspire each other to actively contribute to a supportive and positive learning environment. You will learn:
- how to benefit from speaking up and asking questions in class.
- how to express yourself with more confidence.
- how to view mistakes as an essential part of the learning process.
- that speaking in class is like a muscle — the more you practice, the stronger it becomes.
Together with other students, you will explore the causes of speaking barriers and discover ways to overcome them.
The workshop is offered twice. You can choose between:
- 19 May 2026
- 26 May 2026
The sessions will be held in English.
If there is high interest, additional workshops may be scheduled and will be announced on this website.
All students enrolled at Leiden University are welcome to join.
