Abstract

Dialectometry is a quantitative branch of dialectology which uses computational and statistical methods to analyse dialect data. Although dialectometric methods are often used for synchronic classifications, methods like automatic sound correspondences extraction and automatic feature extraction are also useful for diachronic studies. In this talk, I will illustrate how dialectometric methods can help us uncover regional linguistic history from the dialect data documented in various linguistic atlases.
