Take part in a unique workshop with Cleveringa Professor Hélène Landemore on the principles of open democracy and new forms of political participation. The workshop precedes her Cleveringa lecture on 26 November, during which she will discuss her current work on democracy beyond elections, in conversation with Professor Sarah de Lange (Leiden University) and Professor Frank Hendriks (Tilburg University).

Hélène Landemore is internationally regarded as a leading voice on democracy, constitutional reform and the ethical and political implications of artificial intelligence. Landemore identifies major shortcomings in the democratic system, such as the underrepresentation of minorities.
Discussant: Prof. Sarah de Lange (Leiden University)
Sarah de Lange is Professor of Dutch Politics at the Institute for Political Science at Leiden University. She is an expert on extremism, populism, and radicalism, and their implications for liberal democracy.
Discussant: Prof. Frank Hendriks (Tilburg University)
Prof. dr Frank Hendriks is full professor of comparative governance at Tilburg University, and member of the Council for Public Governance in the Netherlands. His research focuses on innovation and quality of democratic governance, democratic leadership and active citizenship. He is the (co)author of several books and articles on these topics; his most recent monograph is Rethinking Democratic Innovation: Cultural Clashes and the Reform of Democracy, Oxford University Press, 2023.
