FAIR imaging for advancing science

Date

Modern microscopy can generate extraordinary images of cells and tissues—but how do researchers ensure that all this imaging data remains reliable, reusable, and ready for future discoveries? As imaging technologies become more advanced and datasets continue to grow, managing scientific data in a transparent and reproducible way is becoming an increasingly important challenge.

Join us for this Tuesday Talk, where Assistant Professor Sylvia Le Dévédec takes us behind the scenes of the Leiden Cell Observatory (LCO) and its evolution into an integrated ecosystem for advanced imaging. She will show how the LCO combines advanced microscopy, training, and data infrastructure to support reproducible, traceable, and AI-ready science throughout the entire imaging workflow.

Programme

The programme of the Tuesday Talk is:

15.45 hrs Take a seat
16.00 hrs Tuesday Talks: Science Insights
17.00 hrs Drinks

From Microscopy to FAIR Science

The Leiden Cell Observatory supports researchers throughout the entire imaging workflow—from sample preparation and data acquisition to image analysis and publication. Beyond providing access to a broad range of imaging technologies, the LCO aims to help scientists work in ways that make imaging data more reproducible, traceable, and suitable for AI-driven analysis.

By developing FAIR frameworks and quality assurance standards, the LCO team is helping to build a future in which imaging is not only prolific, but also robust and reusable across disciplines and over time.

About the speaker

Sylvia Le Dévédec is a researcher at the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR) and co-leader of the Leiden Cell Observatory (LCO). Her research combines systems microscopy with compound and genetic phenotypic screening to investigate the mechanisms behind breast cancer metastasis and drug resistance. Together with the LCO team, she works to ensure that imaging data is reliable, traceable, and reusable by developing FAIR frameworks and quality assurance standards for reproducible, AI-ready science.

About the Tuesday Talks

The Tuesday Talks are Leiden Science’s monthly dose of research inspiration from our staff, for our staff and all others curious minds. Every second Tuesday of the month from 16:00 hrs till 17:00 hrs, drinks and meet up afterwards till 18.00 hrs.
