Join the Pride Walk on 31 August

We encourage our students and staff to join Pride Leiden’s Pride Walk on Monday 31 August at 19:30.

The walk starts at Stadhuisplein and ends at Van der Werfpark. Participants will walk through the city to shine a light on diversity and equal rights.

Leiden University will not have a boat in this year’s Canal Parade. After speaking with the LGBTIQA+ community and Pride Leiden, we have decided to show our support by taking part in the Pride Walk.

Pride Leiden sees the Canal Parade as an opportunity to celebrate LGBTIQA+ diversity, while the Pride Walk provides a platform for protest and social engagement. We believe it is important that our students and staff can express their views peacefully and respectfully, and have therefore chosen to take part in the Pride Walk this year. Next year, we will review how Leiden University can contribute to Leiden Pride.

Open community

We want Leiden University to be an open community where everyone feels welcome and where there is room for different experiences and opinions. Taking part in Pride is one way of making this ambition visible.

Would you like to take part? Join us on your own, with fellow students or colleagues or as part of Queer Leiden University.
