Master Honours Classes

Master Honours Classes are small-scale, extra-curricular, interdisciplinary courses that address both theory and practice. Are you looking for extra challenge alongside your master studies? Why not register for an Honours Class?

Small scale & interdisciplinary

Master Honours Classes are small scale, which means there’s plenty of scope for personal focus and debate. Classes address complex scientific and social issues which demand an interdisciplinary approach. You will study alongside students from diverse study programmes. Through Master Honours Classes you will learn to tackle issues from different perspectives and experience how it is to work with people from outside your field of study.

Theory & practice

You’ll also be challenged by innovative forms of education. Not only will you delve into theory, you’ll also tackle a social case study. You might find yourself attending a lecture, dealing with a practical problem or even undertaking a project for an external partner. Through this approach, you'll learn to apply scientific theory to practice.

Who can apply?

To follow a Master Honours Class you must meet the following admission requirements:

  • You are following a master’s programme at Leiden University;
  • Your average grade for your bachelor’s programme was 7.0 or higher;
  • You are highly motivated.

Study credits and certificates

Master Honours Classes are 5 or 10 EC courses. Upon successful completion, you’ll receive an Honours Class certificate and have your Honours Class mentioned on your diploma supplement as an extra-curricular course.
