Een internationale commissie heeft wiskundig onderzoek van alle Nederlandse universiteiten beoordeeld over de periode 2009-2014. Wiskunde in Leiden kreeg het 'hoogste' cijfer (een 1) op alle criteria; kwaliteit van het onderzoek, maatschappelijke relevantie en levensvatbaarheid.
