The ocean plays a crucial role in mitigating climate change by absorbing 40% of our emitted carbon dioxide (CO2) from fossil fuel burning and 90% of the excess heat trapped in the Earth system.
This service comes at a cost: it leads to ocean warming, increasing acidity, and impacts on marine life. The changes are long-term and will impact future climate.
Dr. Ivy Frenger (GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel | Biogeochemical Modelling) will explore potential consequences and emphasize that understanding the ocean's behavior is crucial for effectively addressing future climate challenges and achieving climate goals.
