Join our study: could a robot help you make decisions?

16 June 2026

Researchers from the ERC StG Safe & Sound project at Leiden University are recruiting students to take part in two studies on human–robot interaction. The studies explore how people make decisions with robots, how they experience robotic assistance, and how this evidence can help shape safer and more effective robotics regulation in Europe.

There are two ways to participate:

1. Social robot decision-making study

Join a group of three participants and complete a group decision-making task based on the NASA 'Survival on the Moon' exercise. During the task, your group will receive advice from either a social robot or a human advisor. The study explores trust, teamwork, and decision-making in human–robot interaction.

Participation takes approximately 90 minutes. Participants receive €16.50 or 3 SONA credits. We are especially looking for groups of three, so feel free to register together with friends or classmates.

2. Wearable exoskeleton robot study

Take part individually in a study where you will wear a hip-mounted exoskeleton robot and perform simple walking and decision-making tasks. During the study, researchers will collect physiological and questionnaire data to better understand the psychological experience of using wearable robots.

Participation takes approximately 90–100 minutes. Participants receive €16.50 or 3 SONA credits.

Both studies take place at the SSH Labs, at the Sylvius Building, Leiden University.

These studies are part of the ERC-funded Safe & Sound – Science for Robot Policy project, which investigates how scientific evidence can support safer and more responsible robotics governance.
