On Friday 13 February, the Netherlands Student Orchestra (NSO) will perform at Stadsgehoorzaal Leiden in a concert full of energy, passion and outstanding music. The orchestra consists of around 90 talented students from across the Netherlands, who put their studies on hold for a month each year to make music together at the highest level.
Leiden students
Especially noteworthy is the participation of Jonathan and Matthijs, both Mathematics students at Leiden University, who are performing with the NSO this year. They are among the ten Leiden students selected to take part – all outstanding musicians from the Dutch student community. A unique opportunity to see fellow students in action beyond the lecture hall!
Programme
Under the direction of conductor Arjan Tien, the concert features:
-
Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2, with violinist Noa Wildschut as soloist
-
Suites from Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé – grand and immersive works
-
The world premiere of the new composition Durga-Puriya Sonata by Arjan Linker
The theme of this year’s tour is ‘Untamed’. In an era dominated by digitalisation and social media, where ideas of what is ‘normal’ are constantly shaped, the NSO musicians step away from their studies for a month and follow their passion without limits.
