Student Assessor Lidwien gets second term: 'Keep making your voice heard!'

We are pleased to announce that Lidwien will continue to fulfil the role of Student Assessor within the Faculty of Archaeology's Board next academic year. Since her start in September last year, building on her previous experience in the Education Committee, she has continued to develop into a connecting link between students and staff.

Looking back on an intense year

A key dossier of the past year was the Culture Change Process. Although this change was initially mainly focused on staff, Lidwien made sure that student experiences became more visible in the process. 'We noticed that not everyone was aware of the things students were experiencing,' she says. 'Those insights are now on the table. That is the basis on which we continue to build.'

Transparency and reporting procedures

Feedback clearly showed that there is still a lack of clarity about reporting and complaint routes. Where can you go? Who is responsible? And what happens to your report? Lidwien wants to do more work on this in the coming year: 'There are enough channels, but the next steps need to be clear. Students deserve feedback on what happens to their input.'

Looking ahead

In addition to these focal points, the development of a new Faculty Strategic Plan that focuses precisely on broad community engagement is ongoing. Lidwien has already met with the Faculty Council, the Green Team and LAS Terra, but is aiming for even more student input. The Education Visitation this autumn will also provide opportunities to recalibrate the faculty vision. 'Got any ideas? Feel free to approach me or a committee member,' she reports. 'The wider our reach, the more perspectives we can bring.'

Participate!

The coming months will be crucial for the further growth of our Faculty, from streamlining course schedules to better guidance for theses. Lidwien calls on everyone to actively participate in discussions: 'At the end of the day, we all share the same passion for archaeology. Let me know if something could be improved. I'm never too busy for a chat!'

With her reappointment, the Faculty remains assured of an enthusiastic, accessible and critical student voice at the table. We wish Lidwien a succesful second term!
