Science campus transformed into a festival hub for three days during We are Science Week
This year’s We are Science Week was another great success! For the first time, the Campus Square was transformed into a true festival site. Take a look at the photos and join us in looking back on this enjoyable week!
The weather gods were certainly on our side this year. With plenty of sunshine (we’ll conveniently forget those showers on Tuesday afternoon), everyone had a great time on Campus Square. Many students and staff took part in games of table football, cornhole and giant Jenga.
The study associations once again surprised us this year with a fantastic range of activities. At the Leidse Biologen Club, you could learn how to make your own paper, while Aesculapius offered bracelet-making workshops and the students of SV Life showed visitors how to make their own washing-up liquid.
Of course, We are Science Week would not be complete without some traditional Dutch treats. On Tuesday, freshly baked stroopwafels were available, while Thursday’s warm temperatures made Stichting RINO’s famous liquid nitrogen ice cream especially welcome. Coffee lovers were also well catered for. For not one, not two, but three days, the team from Barista Fabriek served a wide selection of delicious drinks.
Alongside all the eating and drinking, there was of course some serious work to be done as well. In EM.1.19, several teams attempted to crack the Escape box created by Young Academy Leiden. Those more in need of relaxation could head to the drinks event in De Fusie, where the band Take Cover! performed live. The clothes swap also attracted plenty of attention, with racks full of clothing waiting to find new owners. Didn’t spot anything for yourself? You could also pick up an old year shirt.
As every year, we ended the week with our showpiece event: the Beat the Professor Pub Quiz! In a packed atrium, 63 teams battled it out for victory. Quizmasters Timo and Victor turned the evening into a real spectacle. The competition remained tense right up until the very last moment, but in the end Team Tox'R'Us — previous winners of the quiz — came out on top once again. It was a wonderful comeback for the team, which narrowly missed out on the title by just one point last year. This time, however, the trophy returned home with Tox’R’Us.
