Course registration in year 1

The course registration process depends on when you start the Honours College.

• Are you starting in the second semester of your first year? In the December–February application, you will also need to indicate your preferences for which first-year honours courses you would like to take. You may only be admitted to one first-year honours course. 
   
• Are you starting in the first semester of your second year? Then you must first apply for the Honours College in May-June (during your first year of your bachelor's programme). Later that summer, you will register for honours courses together with all upcoming second- and third-year students. View 'Course registration in years 2 and 3' for more details.

When can I register?

Twice a year during bachelor years 2 and 3, you have the possibility to submit course preferences for the upcoming semester. The course registration periods are listed in the table below. As an Honours College student, you are responsible for keeping track of these deadlines. 

How does course registration work in years 2 and 3?

Course registration takes place via the Honours Academy registration system. Please note: you can only create an account while the course registration period is open.

We ask you to list a minimum of three and a maximum of four courses you would like to take. This helps us ensure that everyone can be placed on a course they're interested in.

How many honours courses can I take?

The principle we apply is that you take a maximum of one Honours College course per semester. This allows us to offer as many students as possible the chance to earn credits during each semester.

• Are you taking a course in the first semester that is completed within that same semester? Then you can register for courses of both 5 EC and 10 EC in the second semester.
   
• Are you taking a 10 EC course in the first semester that continues into the second semester? Then you won't take part in course registration for the second semester, as this would mean taking two Honours College courses at the same time.
   
• Do you have a pressing reason to want to take two courses within the same semester? For example, because it might disrupt your study planning or graduation if you cannot take two courses? Indicate this on the course registration form. In that case, you will be placed on a waiting list. You can only be placed on a second honours course if places are still available after the regular registration round.
