Study sustainability and earn credits with this free, virtual exchange
Increase your environmental awareness, knowledge of the green transition and skills in sustainable transformation. Work with students from across Europe and Africa, and do all this with no travel required – thanks to this virtual sustainability exchange!
The Una Europa Virtual Exchanges for Sustainability programme is for all Leiden University students, PhD candidates and PostDocs.
It’s free to join and takes place over a total of five sessions (3 hours per day for 5 days). You will:
- Attend inspiring plenary talks, each offering a unique perspective on sustainability.
- Get to know students from many different countries and cultures.
- Develop a sustainability-themed action plan together with other participants.
Topics include:
- Introduction to sustainability;
- UN Sustainable Development Goals;
- Climate change;
- Biodiversity;
- Political economy and the arts in sustainability.
You will also earn 1 ECTS credit (via Helsinki Open University) and a certificate of participation.
After the virtual exchange, you can go on to complete several online courses at your own pace. These courses will help you learn to analyze sustainability and its importance and impacts with an interdisciplinary approach, and will give you additional ECTS credits.
Who can apply
Apply for this virtual exchange by 24 October 2025.
To be accepted, you must be:
- Interested in sustainability and the future of our shared planet.
- Available to attend the sessions from 14.00-17.00 CET on 13, 20 and 27 November, 4 and 11 December.
- A bachelor's or master's student, PhD candidate or PostDoc at Leiden University or LUMC.
Previous experience in sustainability or natural science isn’t necessary. Students from all disciplines are welcome!
