Switch-It-Up Wednesday: choose plant-based and sustainable in our cafés

23 March 2026

Leiden University and the Leiden University Green Office (LUGO) have joined the national ‘Wissel ’ns wat’ (Switch It Up) campaign with a tasty initiative: ‘WisselWoensdag’! (Switch-It Up Wednesday). Switch-It-Up Wednesday is about branching out, trying new flavours and finding alternatives that are every bit as tasty – if not tastier.

Switch it up

Every Wednesday between now and the summer, you’ll find a special, plant-based sandwich or wrap on the menu: the chance to try something new and discover just how good plant-based food can be. If you usually go for a meat or cheese sandwich, why not switch things up on Wednesday and enjoy a delicious plant-based alternative instead?

On Wednesday 25 March, the menu will feature LUGO’s vegan chicken Caesar wrap. You’ll also find plant-based snacks and desserts every Wednesday, plus the option to try plant-based milk in your coffee for free in all our cafés.

A sustainable choice

Choosing plant-based products like the LUGO wrap helps reduce emissions, save water and protect ecosystems. If we all make conscious choices, we can make a difference together.

LUGO will host an information stand with more info about the positive impact of eating plant-based foods. You’ll find it in the following restaurants on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 25 March: Schotel Restaurant (Gorlaeus)
  • Wednesday 22 April: Wijnhaven Restaurant
  • Wednesday 20 May: Lipsius Restaurant
