Vacancy: Student Tutor BSc Security Studies

18 June 2026

Would you like to help our upcoming first-year Security Studies students make a flying start? Do you have ideas on how we can make new students feel at home at university? And do you enjoy working with committed fellow students? Then we’re looking for you!

For academic year 2026–2027, we are looking for 5-7 enthusiastic student tutor duos! As a student tutor, you will play a key role in supporting first-year students as they begin their studies. You’ll help them settle in socially while also guiding them through sessions focused on academic and study skills.

What you’ll do

Together with a fellow student tutor, you will be responsible for a group of around 40-60 students during the first phase of their studies. You will organise skills-based sessions on academic and study skills, as well as self-study sessions, act as a go-to person for student questions and support, identify potential issues, and refer students when needed (including well-being concerns). In addition to focusing on skills development, you will help foster a sense of social and academic engagement and guide your group as they navigate university life.

You’ll work an average of 2 to 4 hours per week, with the busiest period running from late August to late October. Additionally, you should at least be available for:

  • Training and calibration sessions at the end of August (on campus), from 17 August onwards.
  • Skills-based sessions, (self-)study sessions, and social events.
  • Management of a WhatsApp group.
  • The first semester.

This role is ideal if you’re interested in teaching, mentoring, and gaining hands-on experience working with groups of students.

What you bring

You are a great fit for this role if you:

  • Are enrolled in the BSc Security Studies OR are an alumnus of the BSc Security Studies and are currently enrolled in the MSc Crisis and Security Management AND are enthusiastic about your studies.
  • Enjoy helping and motivating others.
  • Have a sense of responsibility and an understanding of the various situations new students may find themselves in.
  • Can explain concepts clearly and like teaching.
  • Are well-organised and enjoy planning activities.
  • Want to help shape the student tutoring programme.
  • Like being part of a team and work well with others.
  • Have sufficient availability and flexibility between August and January.
  • Can act as a role model and represent your programme and the university, including on social media.
  • Experience in mentoring or supporting students is a plus but not required.

Don’t meet every requirement but still feel this role is right for you? We encourage you to apply!

What we offer

  • Fun social events and get-togethers with first-year students and your fellow student tutors.
  • Impact on the mentoring programme.
  • An accessible introduction to organising activities and taking responsibility for groups.
  • A great addition to your CV.
  • Meaningful work where you can make a real difference for new students.
  • Professional training to prepare you for the position (participation is mandatory).
  • Structured teaching materials to guide your sessions.
  • Opportunities to develop your knowledge and teaching skills.
  • A fun group of colleagues and an educational collaboration with professionals within the programme.
  • A behind-the-scenes look at your programme.
  • A paid position as a student assistant with a temporary contract via JobMotion.
  • Salary based on your year of study.
