What is Purple Friday?

Purple Friday is an event held on the second Friday in December in high schools and universities across the Netherlands with the purpose of showing solidarity with queer and trans people.

This year, we want to use Purple Friday as an opportunity to focus on the ways institutions, like Leiden University, need to effectively translate their strategies, values and promises into practices to ensure the safety and wellbeing of marginalized communities, including LGBTQIA+ individuals. In this way, the solidarity of Purple Friday can extend into longer-lasting, meaningful change.

15:00 - 15:45 introduction of the panel + panel discussion & Q&A
15:45 - 16:00 break
16:00 - 30 discussion of concrete issues in groups with students and staff
16:30 - 17:00 sharing the conclusions reached by the groups
from 17:00 drinks!
