Get your LU-Card before 20 October 2023

28 September 2023

As you are already aware, you are asked to show your LU-Card (for a check of the photo & student/staff number) when entering the Kamerlingh Onnes Building (KOG). This will take some getting used to, but we’re doing this because it’s important that we have a safe work and study environment. During the opening hours of the KOG, from 8.30 to 17.30, the LU-Cards are checked by two external security guards. Before and after opening hours, and during the weekends, a member of the reception desk staff will check the LU-Cards. Below are some frequently asked questions.

Why is this necessary?
Leiden University is responsible for the safety and well-being of its students, staff, and visitors. The LU-Card check contributes to this by ensuring that only individuals with an LU-Card, including both staff and students, can study or work in the building.

What if I don’t have an LU-Card yet?
In that case, we urgently request you arrange this as soon as possible. Starting from Friday, 20 October, all (new) students must show their LU-Card at the entrance. Please note that it can take around two weeks to get your card. Until then, you can confirm your enrolment via Studylink or the Leiden University App together with showing your ID/passport/driving licence.

Where can I apply for an LU-Card?
You can apply for your LU-Card online here. In addition to serving as an access pass to university buildings, your LU-Card also functions as a library card and a print and copy card.

Finally
To facilitate a smooth entry process at the entrance hall, it would be greatly appreciated if you have your access pass ready to show when you arrive. Thanks for your cooperation!
