Karène Sanchez genomineerd voor Leidse Onderwijsprijs

Which teacher has the talent to really motivate their students or is able to combine current research in their lectures? These are important qualifications for winning the yearly university wide Teaching Prize. Dr. Karène Sanchez, lecturer French language and culture, is one of the nominees.

Motivation

Together with two other teachers, Dr. Karène Sanchez was nominated out of almost thirty proposals from student groups and/or student organizations. According to the jury, Sanchez is a teacher who brings out the natural motivation in her students. She is able to give tailored education to students of both French language and culture and International Studies, even though the level of the students may differ.

Sanchez considers teaching as a 'mission'. She thinks that while Humanities are at a crossroads and challenged, historical sociolinguistics give students tools to have critical views on their environment, a better understanding of the relations between languages, cultures and identity buildings processes and diplomacy. She uses technologies to give them original inputs, subjects to work on and recent conceptual debates updates.

The winning teacher will be announced at the Dies Natalis on Friday 7 February. The winner will receive €5000 which can be spend on education. Last year, the Teaching Prize was won by Hebrew teacher Martin Baasten.
