Koenraad Schalm new Programme Director of the Physics master
Koenraad Schalm will be the new programme director of the Physics master starting 1 November. He has been appointed for a period of four years. Schalm succeeds Ana Achúcarro who has held the position since 2021.
Jan Aarts, scientific director of the Leiden Institute for Research in Physics, is pleased with the new programme director. ‘Koenraad brings a lot of experience to the table, as Chair of the Exam Committee and vice-scientific director. He is also an excellent teacher, with experience in both the Bachelor and Master programmes, and with a keen interest in renewal of the curriculum.’
Aarts is very grateful to Ana Achúcarro for the past years. ‘Ana had to step in on short notice when the then-designate Programme Director moved to a position abroad. And she had hardly started when covid broke out. With her colleague Michiel de Dood she worked very hard to keep us afloat, and we are grateful for all the energy she spent on the education dossier.’
