Celebrate the Faculty Opening of the Academic Year (FOAY) on Tuesday, 8 September from 15:00–17:00! This is a moment for all staff and students of the FSW community to come together. Get to know the faculty, explore its profile themes, and connect with one another as we celebrate the start of the new academic year. We’ll provide snacks, drinks and music!

AI for People, Society and Science
Stand: AI with SOLO – The Pub Quiz
During the pub quiz, you’ll discover more about the opportunities and challenges of AI. You’ll also get to know the university’s new AI environment for staff and students: LUChat – Leiden University’s fully secure and privacy-proof version of ChatGPT.
Health and Wellbeing
Stand: Space Maze: A Journey from Space to Leiden
Step aboard our space mission and go on an adventure through a cosmic maze, searching for your way back home. Along the way, you’ll encounter stars, planets and alien creatures. How well did your brain remember the route?
First seen at Lowlands, this playful activity lets you discover how your spatial memory works and how your brain creates a mental map of your surroundings. You’ll also learn that navigating and creating mental maps isn’t equally easy for everyone, and that differences in our sense of direction are completely normal. Are you up for the challenge, astronaut?
Sustainability and Biodiversity
Stand: The ClimateCasino
Meet the Climate Casino: an interactive serious game that challenges you to think about climate change, risks and the choices we face tomorrow—all while having fun. Play together, place your chips and test how confident you are in your climate knowledge. Be surprised by thought-provoking questions, unexpected insights and engaging discussions. Whether you know a lot or a little about the topic, everyone can join in. Come by and play along!
Generation of the Future
Stand: Expedition Inner World
Join the researchers behind the Expedition Inner World research project. How does this generation within FSW envision our future? Through drawings, collages, fun puzzles and creative challenges, you’ll not only get to know your fellow FSW colleagues, but also literally give shape to the inner world of FSW. Who are we?
