About the prize

Since 1988, the Praemium Erasmianum Foundation has awarded annual Dissertation Prizes for exceptional dissertations in the fields of humanities, social sciences and law. Winners of the Dissertation Prize receive a sum of €3,000 and a certificate. A maximum of five prizes are awarded to young researchers in the humanities and social sciences who have defended a PhD dissertation of outstanding quality at a Dutch university. The universities themselves are asked to nominate candidates.
